Montague - Paper or Plastic?

Hey Montague, wondering what goes out on the curb this week? I can only ever find out by looking at what my neighbors have out. At some point I added the info to my calendar but that gets tiresome fast enough. So, I decided to write a quickie website to do the work for me. By the time I was done, I found the official schedule, but it was utterly buried, and the website is easy to refer to, and should work next year and any year after as well.

Fun in Montague

Montaguean Matthew has gotten himself published in McSweeneys with a nifty column about wine

More than any other beverage I know—in fact, more than anything else I can think of besides perhaps yachting and indie rock—wine means pretentiousness. There is no avoiding it, and, believe me, I try day in and day out. To talk about wine is to talk like an asshole.

It's good reading.

Speaking of Matthew, the Bitchell clan made it over to the Lady Killigrew just in time for Matthew and Sarah's last shift before it transfers to new ownership. It was E's first trip into the outside world*

Town Common

Living in the middle of a classic New England town is a pretty remarkable stroke of luck. It's not without it's downsides -- namely, there's a lot of traffic, and we're cramped in on all sides by neighbors. But you get used to that real fast, when you factor in that we're a quick bike ride from our farmstand, a coffeehouse/pub that's about to open, a great used bookstore, a nice church with a bell that's a few minutes off each hour, and a great town common. It could be a lot worse.

I thought all of this was great, but I didn't realize how great it was until I started taking Mabel for nightly walks so that she could do her business. Last night was awesome, the moon was framed by some giant clouds, the stars were out in force, the air was crisp, Mars was floating over to the corner. The trees stand there, just waiting to burst from their summer green into autumn foliage beauty. There's mist drifting through the trees... And I say to myself, I LIVE HERE.

Like I said, it could be a lot worse.
